Dealers aren't always trading for your organisation

Dealer fraud within cable or satellite TV services can be defined as dealers selling equipment or service with the intent to deprive the service provider of revenue.  In many cases the fraudster is not the shop owner but members of staff or a third party.

Dealer fraud can take several guises:

• ID Theft ­ false activation of subscriber accounts to receive commission creating false identities or utilising genuine customer information from past applications for example).
• Commissions ­ using knowledge of providers’ processes and systems to sign up people (who do not meet the acceptance criteria) in order to claim commission.  
• Flipping -
• Equipment or upgrade frauds ­ stealing inventory to sell on, e.g. scams for insurance phone recovery programs.

• Velocity: New activations where subscriber resides outside the dealers market
• Flipping: New activations that have similar information to a previously deactivated account
• Spinning:  New activations with slightly different application information submitted
• Duplicate payment or addresses:  Activations sharing the same billing addresses and/or credit card
• Invalid addresses:  Multiple activations where the addresses are incorrect (AVS, returned mail, etc.)
